RESUME/CV

I was born in Brisbane 1955, and grew up with my younger brother and three sisters travelling and working beside our parents in the 60's as field workers in rural and Nth.Queensland. My Grandmother and father were from Bigambul country on the Qld/NSW border. Many people hunted as a necessity in those days, bushcraft was always a fair percentage of the conversation, we made and used bush tools all the time in the backblocks and camps when I was growing up, spears were still used frequently by kids and adults as they still are in some lucky places today.

And I was one of those kids always interested and willing to learn and continue these traditions. We more or less grew up on the Bruce Highway and lived in fringe camps and settlements all over the place. Later, after a disastrous fire we moved to Brisbane. In the city, and with such wild 5 kids as us, my parents did it tough and gradually they began to drift apart, my father became more involved and active in Aboriginal issues and my mother in white Feminist activism. I too was very involved in the politics of the time, from an early age I had witnessed first hand the plight of murri people and resolved to share the struggle for cultural and physical survival. My life with indigenous culture continued into adulthood and I lived a nomadic life travelling and working around the country. I turned 21 hand mining for sapphires and lived with my wife and son in a tin shack (that she built) In the 80s I learned printing and published Aboriginal leaflets, newspapers and printing. After that I returned to the bush travelling and using materials to make artefacts...stone tools, bark painting.
Fire making at events and festivals and schools took me around Qld, Australia and then different places around the world and I still tour Indigenous art education programs in schools and other events.
As a professional artist my works have been acquired by major collections, National Gallery of Australia, Queensland Art Gallery, Public Art.....

.*....So I have travelled around the country all my life, love camping light and using bush materials for my work.
Presenting Indigenous culture workshops in Qld. schools I have met many marvellous people, teachers, kids..and it has also been my honour and pleasure to present Indigenous art and culture internationally at events and festivals around the world;...from the Great Wall of China - to Hadrians Wall in Scotland....
and along the way...
...I've looked for Troy and tried to buy gold at the Ponte Veccio...had a coupla Gondola rides.
Held my ground crossing the Tiber and the Nullabour, seen the Morning Glory, wish I hadn't seen the Devil Devil at Waddawadaalla...been rained on under the Eiffel tower and Big Ben; just had to yell out There it is! at Loch Ness...Ole'd!! at zee bull fights...and castles..I've seen castles..ancient cities...Toledo steel,..Dragon ships and great big stone feet...Woken up beside the Pyramids, flicked a stick into the Nile river and watched it float away.. yeah and cried a river too. Lit a candle before the reclining Budda...Checked out the Bund, the Louvre, the Vatican...entered the forbidden city, limped away from Winton
And visited every Gallery and Arts space I could in between.........!!
